Section 01

Cost & ROI

Pricing, payback, and what your savings look like.

How much does a TOBOR BESS cost?
The TOBOR BESS line runs in two bands: C&I from the 30 kW MTX-S30 cabinet through PTX systems up to 2 MW, and utility-scale CTX containers from 2.5 MW / 5.06 MWh up to the 10 MW / 20.26 MWh CTX-B20 block. For homes we offer the HTX compact range (3–9 kW) on request and Tobor Lite portable units online. We don't publish list prices because every quote is sized to your bill or DG load — use the calculator for a personalised estimate, or send us your site details for a 24-hour quote.
What is the payback period for a home battery?
For an Indian homeowner with rooftop solar and a typical ₹6,000–10,000 monthly bill, payback is usually 4–6 years. Homes that combine a TOBOR battery with PM Surya Ghar subsidy on the solar side can reach 3-year payback. Tier-1 city homes with ₹12,000+ bills pay back fastest.
What is the payback period for replacing a diesel generator?
Most factories, hospitals and campuses running a 30 kW–2 MW load reach payback in 3–4 years on a BESS + solar combination. Sites that pay both demand-charge penalties and peak-rate diesel can hit payback in under 3 years.
Are there finance options or EMI plans?
Yes. We work with SIDBI and NABARD partners on green-energy loans for commercial deployments, and with NBFCs on residential EMI plans typically running 36–60 months. The Subsidies & Finance page covers eligibility and how to apply.

Section 02

Technology & Safety

What's inside the battery and why it's safe in Indian conditions.

What battery chemistry does TOBOR use?
TOBOR uses LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate, or LFP) cells. Battery safety depends on the complete system: cell quality, protection, thermal management, installation and operation. LFP is still a lithium-ion chemistry and can release hazardous gases or experience thermal runaway under fault or abuse conditions.
How long does the battery last?
Our 30–250 kW systems use 3.2 V 100 Ah LFP cells rated for about 6,000 cycles; 250 kW–2 MW PTX systems and CTX containers use 314 Ah LFP cells rated for about 8,000 cycles. Actual service life depends on operating temperature, depth of discharge and the duty cycle. The project offer confirms the supplied configuration and rated cycle life.
What happens if there's a power cut?
It depends on the model. The MTX Hybrid switches grid ↔ off-grid in under 10 milliseconds — compatibility with sensitive or medical loads must be verified for the specific installation. MTX Standard cabinets restart automatically on battery in about 30–40 seconds, for loads that tolerate a short break. PTX systems and CTX containers switch through an external PCC breaker engineered for the site. A typical DG ATS takes 5–10 seconds.
Is it safe to install inside my building?
Indoor installation requires a site-specific assessment of the selected system, ventilation, fire protection, access and applicable approvals. Do not assume that LFP chemistry removes fire risk. TOBOR confirms the installation arrangement and protection provisions for the proposed configuration during engineering.

Section 03

Installation

What the install actually looks like and how long it takes.

How long does installation take?
MTX cabinets (30–60 kW) and PTX systems up to 250 kW take 2–4 days on site, depending on civil work and existing wiring. PTX 500 kW–2 MW systems and single CTX containers take 7–14 days once civil work and the interconnection are ready; 10 MW CTX-B20 blocks are scheduled per project around the 33 kV works. HTX compact home units take 1 working day. Cloud EMS commissioning adds another half-day.
Do I need a special electrical connection?
Single-phase residences run on standard LT connections. Three-phase commercial sites need an existing 3φ supply. We don't typically request a connection upgrade — the BESS sits between your solar / grid and your loads. MW-scale PTX and CTX systems connect at HT; each CTX container has its own 2.75 MVA 0.4/33 kV unit transformer.
Will a TOBOR battery work with my existing solar inverter?
Yes. TOBOR systems are hybrid-ready and pair with any rooftop solar inverter through an AC- or DC-coupled topology. You keep your existing panels and inverter; we add the battery, BMS, and hybrid controller in line. No re-wiring of your rooftop array.
Where does the battery cabinet physically go?
MTX cabinets (about 1.65 × 1.0 m) are floor-standing — typically inside a utility room next to the existing DG room. PTX systems are laid out per site in an electrical room or outdoor enclosure. CTX units are 20 ft high-cube containers, IP55 and outdoor-rated, on a plinth near your HT yard. HTX compact home units fit in a utility area or garage.

Section 04

Service & Support

Monitoring, diagnostics and help when your system needs attention.

How do you monitor the system?
Every TOBOR BESS streams telemetry to Tobor cloud EMS. We see cell-level temperatures, SoC, SoH, and fault events in real time. If a unit reports an anomaly, our team gets paged before you notice — and we usually fix it remotely.
How do I arrange service or replacement parts?
Contact our support team with the model, serial number and any fault information. We help diagnose the issue and confirm the service work or replacement parts needed for your system.

Section 05

Subsidies & Schemes

PM Surya Ghar, MNRE, GST, and state-level support.

Does PM Surya Ghar cover the battery?
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana subsidises 1–3 kW rooftop solar (up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system). The scheme covers the solar; adding a battery is separate. However, our residential customers routinely stack the solar subsidy with a NBFC EMI on the battery side to make the combined system affordable.
Is GST 12% or 18% on a TOBOR BESS?
Standalone BESS attracts 18% GST. When the BESS ships as part of a documented solar project, it can qualify for 12% — same rate as rooftop solar components. We help you structure the quote correctly when you book.
Does the MNRE CAPEX subsidy apply to commercial customers?
MNRE has a state-administered C&I CAPEX subsidy for renewable-plus-storage projects (typically 20–30% in tier-2/3 cities, lower in metros). Eligibility depends on state and project structure. Our team helps with the application paperwork at no charge.

Section 06

Compatibility with Existing Solar

How a TOBOR battery fits into a site that already has solar.

Do I have to remove my existing solar inverter?
No. TOBOR systems integrate with any existing rooftop solar inverter. We use an AC-coupled topology by default — your inverter keeps generating, our battery sits in parallel and charges when there's excess. No changes to your rooftop array.
What if my state has net metering — should I still install a battery?
It depends on your state. Maharashtra and Gujarat have curtailed net metering above 10 kW. Tamil Nadu has zero-export mandates for commercial rooftop. When the grid stops paying for solar export, the only way to capture daytime generation is to store it. State pages list the live policy per DISCOM.
Will the battery still help even if I don't have solar?
Yes, but the economics are weaker. Without solar, you're just shifting grid power from cheap off-peak hours to expensive peak hours — savings are 20–30% on a typical tariff. Pairing with solar takes the savings to 60–90%. Most TOBOR customers either have solar or install both together.
